Opinion: Addition of Wilfried Zaha would give Sarri the perfect offensive unit

CHELSEAOpinion: Addition of Wilfried Zaha would give Sarri the perfect offensive unit

According to the Mirror, Wilfried Zaha wants to move to Chelsea, with the Ivorian eager to depart Crystal Palace whilst remaining in Selhurst Park.

Whether the Blues replicate his desire remains to be seen, but it’s certainly something that Maurizio Sarri must consider. The Italian’s squad is strong, but on the right-side of his attack, in particular, a lack of quality is a problem.

Neither Pedro or Willian were particularly impressive last season, yet Zaha – who is rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt – was arguably the main man for Crystal Palace all season long.

Perhaps, then, signing him would make sense – but how would he fit into the team?

Well, naturally, a role on the right-hand side of the attack would make sense.

Eden Hazard has dominated the left-hand side of the Chelsea attack for the last few years, and with good reason. He has been dominant in the English top flight, offering a fantastic goalscoring record in combination with stunning pace and agility. The Belgian is the focal point of the Chelsea first team, and the addition of Wilfried Zaha would reduce some of the onus that is often on him.

Leading the line is likely to be Alvaro Morata. He had a tough campaign last time out, but his technical ability and goalscoring acumen can’t be doubted. If the players around him are on form, he’ll hopefully turn around too.

Alongside him, on the right-hand side this time, in theory, would be Wilfried Zaha. Zaha, as mentioned, had a tremendous season last year, offering electric pace and energy down the wings. Like Hazard, he’s more of an inside forward than a winger, meaning that he is more likely to drift inside and drive towards goal than he is to drive down the wings. For Chelsea, then, this formation would offer more of a three-man strike force, rather than just one striker and two wingers.

Pulling the strings behind them is likely to be Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard is a fantastic passer, and he’ll be required to pull the strings and pass the ball through to the players ahead of him.
